Claiborne County Public Library is about to learn what it’s like to have friends. A group of county residents go the extra mile to associate through the formation of a local Friends of the Library chapter.
These organizations are made up of groups of volunteers who support public libraries in the same way that public schools are helped through a partnership with the Parent Teacher Association (PTA).
Friends of Tennessee Libraries, which is the state-level organization, provides the requirements and guidelines volunteers must follow to become an official group.
Claiborne County Public Library will host the first official membership drive during its spring book sale scheduled for the week of May 2-7. A Facebook page has been created for those wishing to follow the local Friends chapter. Just “like” the page to see announcements about upcoming events.
The group strives to achieve its goals by helping with special events and programs while promoting the value of reading and literacy – generally making the library shine as the valuable tool it is for young people. and the younger ones.
One hundred percent of the funds generated from collected membership dues are added to all donations and fundraising proceeds for the benefit of the library and its programs.
The public can contribute to the cause by joining and paying an annual fee. Fees for seniors/students are $5 each per year. An individual can join for an annual fee of $20. Families can become members for an annual fee of $30 each, while individual businesses can join for an annual fee of $50 each.
Anyone can become a life member by paying a one-time fee of $200.
Members are not required to participate in any activities, which means members can be as little or as much involved as they wish.
The Friends of County Claiborne Public Library are responsible for overseeing all matters relating to the library through its board of trustees which meets once a month inside the facility. Everyone is welcome to attend these monthly meetings.
Individuals can join the organization during the week-long Library Spring Book Sale. Simply search for the Claiborne County Public Library Friends Table while browsing the items available for purchase.
