The Lincoln Public Library District and United Community Bank of Lincoln will host a Summer Reading Program Grand Finals for Reading Colors Your World from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 22.
The festivities will begin with Silly Safaris, a live interactive educational program on animal conservation at 10 a.m. on the lawn of the Carnegie Building. Followed by the United Community Bank sponsoring free ice cream and a bounce house for summer reading attendees from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Latham Park. The rain will bring most of the planned activities inside the annex.
Read Colors Your World Participants have been busy all summer beating the summer slide by reading and filling in their notebooks for incentives, attending program events and taking educational craft kits to the House. Studies show that reading in the summer prevents reading loss in the summer. When students feel comfortable reading, they tend to choose books they like, thus becoming lifelong readers. The last day to hand in the Lincoln Public Library District Book Journals to receive a Reading Colors Your World tie-dye t-shirt is Saturday, July 31. The adult summer reading program ends August 31.
People are reminded to mark their calendars for Family Fun Day at the Lincoln Public Library District on Saturday, August 28. Senator Sally Turner will be story time, there will be craft stalls and Sharp’s Shaved Ice Truck will be there. The library will also close its annual book sale, August 25-28. Watch for more details.
