VIRGINIA — Virginia Masonic Lodge will host a barbecue Saturday to benefit the Log Cabin Kids summer program.

The barbecue at Fast Stop on Illinois Routes 125 and 78 will feature grilled bratwurst sausages and giant hot dogs. It will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or while supplies last.

The Log Cabin Kids summer program, which is open to all Cass County children, encourages them to read a book that focuses on nature or a particular time period before completing a craft related to the subject of the book.

Snacks and craft materials for attendees are provided by the non-profit organization Friends of the Rexroat Prairie, which supports the prairie while running programs such as Log Cabin Kids.

The summer program is a way to encourage children to broaden their horizons through reading, said lodge master Tim Krause.
