Directions Credit Union recently donated $3,000 to the Monroe County Library System’s summer reading program.
The money will be used to purchase approximately 1,200 books, which will be given to children who complete the summer reading books.
“We are thrilled to partner with Directions Credit Union for the second year in a row. The value of putting quality books in the hands of children is invaluable, and the continued support of our community partners is greatly appreciated,” said Library Manager Nancy Bellaire.
In addition, children who submit a completed summer reading journal to Directions Credit Union will receive a $5 deposit into their Youth Savings Account. Directions has branches in Monroe and Lambertville. Anyone who lives, works, worships, attends school, or volunteers in Monroe and Lenawee County can be a member.
“At Directions, our mission to improve the quality of life for our entire community aligns perfectly with the goals of the Monroe County Library System. We are excited to support educational opportunities, like summer reading programs, in the areas we serve,” said Barry Shaner, President and CEO of Directions Credit Union.
This year’s summer reading program, “Oceans of Possibilities,” begins June 21 at all branches of the Monroe County Library System. All local children can participate.
“These interactive programs promote literacy, encourage socialization and help counter the summer slide,” the library said. “Weekly events include stories, art experiences and STEM activities.”
