Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library Announces Start Date for Summer Reading Program | News

Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library officials announced Monday that the library branch’s annual summer reading celebration is scheduled to begin June 1.

EVPL says this year’s theme is “Our Summer: Growing Stories,” which celebrates the environment and how it shapes our lives and stories.

“All of our stories are shaped by the natural world around us,” said Erika Qualls Barnett, EVPL Program Manager. “EVPL encourages everyone to participate in the growth of our community’s story by participating in Our Summer.”

This is how it works:

  • Readers of all ages are invited to participate. Participants will be grouped by age: 0-5 years old, 6-8 years old, 9-12 years old, Teens and Adults.
  • To register, visit any EVPL location or outreach event the library attends. All EVPL locations hold an annual Summer Reading Celebration kick-off event on Wednesday, June 1. The EVPL Central, EVPL McCollough, EVPL North Park, EVPL Oaklyn and EVPL Red Bank events will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The EVPL East, EVPL Stringtown and EVPL West events will take place from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Once registered, you will receive a registration price which includes a coupon for a free book from the EVPL Foundation Summer Book Sale.
  • Record the books read on the diary provided at registration. Return your log by Sunday, July 31 to participate in our grand prize. Readers can end multiple journals for additional entries.
  • Once readers complete 10 books and turn in their journal, they will also receive a completion award.
  • Prices for our summer include Evansville Otters tickets, Mesker Park Zoo passes, gift cards, and more.
