AUGUSTA, GA (WJBF) Field star now takes her talents on paper –
âI write children’s books and I want to share the word with all the kids,â Brian Jordan said.
Former Atlanta Braves and Falcons player Brian Jordan is now a children’s author who aims to motivate students to read.
âI didn’t feel confident reading and want to share this with the kids. Hopefully those like me who don’t have self-confidence will gain that confidence and become successful readers and have the hope of being successful, âJordan said.
Jordan visited Garett Elementary School to start their reading program.
He also donates books, including one of his favorites, the first book he ever wrote.
âMy favorite is my first. “I told you I could play.” Just encourage the kids to never give up and when you have the chance, take it, âJordan said.
It’s all part of a reading challenge for second and third graders.
âWhat we’re going to do here is challenge them year round to read and not just read but journal because these two things together will make a difference in their lives,â said Vince Lockhart.
Vince Lockhart, who says he’s been friends with Jordan for almost 30 years, also teamed up with Jordan on the program.
He says helping students understand the importance of reading is critical to their success later in life.
âWhen you think about the fact that prisons are now made at the third grade level and we take our kids and figure out when they will go to jail instead of going to college, we have to start somewhere to make them successful. . It’s our job as business owners and as parents in the community, âLockhart said.
As for Jordan, he doesn’t just leave books for the students, but some advice.
âYou can dream big and there is nothing you cannot do if you believe in yourself first. “
