Veterans Day-
All libraries in the Hillsborough County Public Libraries Co-operative will be closed on Thursday, November 11.
Thanksgiving – All libraries in the Hillsborough County Public Libraries Co-operative will be open until 6 p.m. on Monday, November 22, Tuesday, November 23, and Wednesday, November 24. All libraries in the Hillsborough County Public Libraries Co-operative will be closed on Thursday Nov 25 and Friday November 26.

NEA Big Read 2021 kicks off
Saturday November 6 at 10:00 a.m.
Tampa Bay History Center, 801 Water St., Tampa, FL 33602
Join the library and community partners as we celebrate the power of poetry and the importance of cultural heritage to kick off the NEA 2021 Big Read for “An American Sunrise (2019)” by Joy Harjo. Free copies of the book and additional gifts for young people are available on a first come, first served basis. Attendees are invited to listen to an address by First Wordsmith of Tampa, local writer and educator, Gianna Russo, and meet with local organizations.

Master Gardener: How to Find Gardening Information on the Web
Monday November 8 at 6:00 p.m.
Find out where to look for Florida-specific research-based information on a variety of topics. Nicole Pinson with UF / IFAS Extension Hillsborough County will show how to find information on turf, nutrient deficiencies, plant pathology, palm problems and insect identification. This presentation will provide you with a list of free UF / IFAS web resources. Mark these links for future reference so you can identify garden issues and find information quickly! Tampa Bay History Center: Native American Exhibits Virtual Tour
Tuesday, November 9 at 10:00 a.m.
Join the online library to preview some of the special spaces at the Tampa Bay History Center, including Florida’s First People, The Seminole and Miccosukee Story, and Coacoochee’s Story Theater. A video tour and short presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session with a representative from the Tampa Bay History Center.

Write poetry for children and teens
Wednesday November 10 at 6.30 p.m.
Explore and create your own poetry with award-winning author Jaimie Engle. A teaching session on epigraphic poetry will be followed by the [optional] the opportunity for students to make their poetic voices heard. For this session, rather than a smartphone, it is recommended to use a tablet, laptop or computer with a webcam. Register and participate in this event for a chance to win a free book.

Wednesday November 17 at 6.30 p.m.
Fried bread is both a culinary and cultural touchstone in many Native American countries. Join Chef Mira as she gives a cooking demonstration on how to prepare this delicious dish inspired by the recipe from Kevin Noble Maillard’s picture book, “Fry Bread: A Native American Family Story.” For a chance to win a free copy of this book, please provide your address when registering. Youth aloud: NEA Big Read

Uptown Stage, University Mall, 2200 E. Fowler Ave., Tampa, FL 33612
Teens, make your voice heard in a poetry and performance writing workshop exploring nature, memories and lived experiences. You’ll get tips and feedback on how to produce original poems using tools like metaphor, personification, and creative writing prompts. Led by the Heard ‘Em Say Youth Arts collective.
