Bourbonnais Public Library

• Finding Local Authors: The library seeks to feature local authors in honor of National Author Day. If you are a local author, send your name, book title, short biography, and photo to [email protected] by October 29.

• Hallo-Teen Party: At 3:00 pm Thursday, grade seven and eight students are invited to make a cemetarium (a haunted terrarium), enjoy spooky snacks, and make new friends. No registration required.

Bradley Public Library

• My First Book Club: Monday at 4:30 pm Ms. Sarah will introduce young students (Kindergarten to Grade 4) to book discussions featuring a new book for early readers.

• Author in the spotlight: Wednesday at 6:30 pm, participate in a virtual presentation with author Chris Bohjalian (“Witch Hour”). Register through the library’s online calendar. Questions for the author can be submitted to [email protected] by Monday.

Edward Chipman Public Library (Momence)

• Lego night: Monday at 6 pm, build a creation based on a theme that will be unveiled that evening. The teams’ creations will be displayed in the library and voted on during the month. The winning team will be announced at our next Lego party. All teams must have at least one adult and one child.

• Sing-A-Long & Storytime: Wednesday at 11 a.m. there will be 30 minutes of singing, followed by 30 minutes of story reading. Program open to young people.

Grant Park Library

• The library offers books from the bestseller list as well as old classics and children’s books. They also have children’s DVDs, which require a deposit which is returned when the DVD is returned.

Kankakee Public Library

• Harbor House Book Discussion: As part of the Harbor House events for Domestic Violence Awareness Month October, there will be a discussion on “Crazy Love” by Leslie Morgan Steiner at 5:30 pm Thursday in the 4th floor auditorium.

• October is designated as “Family History Month” and the library offers a Family History Basket which includes an ancestry DNA kit and genealogy themed kits. There are three ways to enter: Dial 815-939-4564, option 4; complete the gift form at bit.ly/3Avia2O; register in person at the genealogy room on the 3rd floor of the library.

Manteno Public Library

• Dinosaur Hunt: During library opening hours on Thursdays, children can search the library for dinosaurs. If you find one, bring it to the loan counter for a fee.

• Adult coloring: Thursday at 6 pm, the library invites adults for a coloring program. Bring your own project, or materials will also be provided.

• Fall Reading Challenge: Until October 29, the Fall Reading Challenge will be available through the Reading Zone app (use code d0182). Each week that you reach your reading goal, you will win a raffle ticket for a Family Halloween Fun Pack.

Pembroke Public Library

• TLC Bags: The library is looking for organizations that would like to include a brochure or flyer (with information about the organization) in the October TLC Bags. Call Veronica at 815-944-8609 for more information.

• Family Fun Time: Starting at 11:30 am Friday, join the library via Facebook Live for a craft demonstration, recipe and story time.

Limestone Township Library District

• Takeaway Crafts: Starting today, supplies are available at the library for scarecrow bat crafts. Students in Grades 1 to 5 are encouraged to collect home craft supplies from the library.

• Book Sale: Starting Monday, the Friends of the Library Group will be holding a book sale.
