Library Lines: Portland

People don’t often think of stopping by the library on Halloween night, but we actually have a lot to offer. We are open for the duration of the ride or treats and have treats to hand out. We are warm in cold weather and cool in hot weather. We also create a practical (and clean!) restroom break! Not to mention, the staff are happy to admire the costumes, give directions, and offer a safe haven from any spooky scares that might be on the streets. So consider stopping by October 31 this year!

Page turners: So you missed the first date of the Page Turners, PDL’s teen book club. Carefree! Three books are up for grabs. This fall, we read “The Name of the Star” by Maureen Johnson. It tells the chilling story of a Jack the Ripper impersonator in modern-day London. Register at the Youth Bureau and pick up your free copy of the book. Our next meeting will be on Saturday, November 19 at 10 a.m. in the community hall. We’ll see each other there!

bark for books: Argh! Argh! Weft! Weft! Barks for Books is coming to the library this fall with new dates and times to read to our four-legged friends. Dixie will be in the building on the third Thursday of every month from 5-6:30 p.m. Young readers, ages 6-12, can sign up for 15-minute time slots to practice reading aloud to a therapy-trained dog, improving their communication skills while building confidence in self. Customers must register by calling 517-647-6981 and be on time for their timeslot!
