Here’s a look at what’s happening at local libraries in Hancock County.
Schedules lined up for summer reading
GREENFIELD — Both branches of the Hancock County Public Library have multiple programs for all ages coming up for the “Oceans of Possibilities” summer reading challenge.
Kids and families can see an Amazon John animal show, a stunt show, magician Daniel Lusk, and a balloon program every Monday in May. There are also several craft projects for elementary school children, as well as a family movie at Riley Park on July 22.
Teen programs include several arts and crafts projects, as well as a virtual reality ocean exploration program every Thursday. Six weekly STEAM challenges for teens are also available, released every Monday.
Adults can learn about roller derby history, 4th of July candy cooking, archeology, and several free concerts. Local author Ashley Petry will be featured on June 7, and a “Crazy Cat-People Party” and a free hand-painted seashell art workshop are also planned.

Scheduled adult book clubs
GREENFIELD — Hancock County Libraries is hosting book clubs and programs for adults this summer.
A Brown Bag Book Discussion will be held at 11 a.m. in Beckenholdt Park, hosted by the Hancock County Public Library and will dive into the book “All Systems Red.” The library will host another discussion at 10 a.m. on July 12 on “We meet on vacation.” Visit hcplibrary.org for details.
The Fortville-Vernon Township Public Library will host two adult book clubs. “The Fire Keeper’s Daughter” will be discussed at 7 p.m. June 2 and “The Dictionary of Lost Words” at 7 p.m. July 7. Visit fvtpl.org to learn more.
Story time returns this summer
GREENFIELD — Storytimes for babies, toddlers and preschoolers resume in June.
The Hancock County Public Library will host story times on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at its Greenfield location, and Tuesday mornings at its New Palestine branch. Visit hcplibrary.org to register.
