Mentor Public Library wrapped up its 2022 summer reading season with a very special guest late last month.
Mermaid Gem visited MPL’s Main Library for an amazingly aquatic story hour. More than 100 children, parents and grandparents took to the library lawn as Gem answered their questions and read “How to Catch a Mermaid” by Adam Wallace and Andy Elkerton.
Afterwards, the families took photos with Gem, blowing bubbles and making mermaid crowns and wands.

More than 1,300 children, along with 500 teens and adults, signed up for the Mentor Public Library’s summer reading program this year. This year’s theme was Oceans of Possibilities, so the library hosted several programs that explored and celebrated lakes, rivers, oceans and aquatic life.
While summer reading may be over, the fun continues. The Mentor Public Library offers programs for all ages throughout the year. Visit www.mentorpl.org to view the library’s calendar of events.
