NORTHWICH is about to launch an online book club for avid and new readers.
The city’s iconic library and Transition Northwich will run the weekly club, which means you can participate from the comfort of your own home.
Cllr Louise Gittins, Cheshire West and Chester Wellness Cabinet Member, said: âReading is a wonderful way to get away from it all, relax and learn.
âMany people rediscovered books during the lockdown and found the books deeply heartwarming during the challenges of the past year.
“We look forward to meeting people who may be completely new to reading as well as book enthusiasts and members of existing book clubs.
âThis club is inspired by a popular weekly session already hosted by the Storyhouse Library team in Chester.
“There is no required reading, just a friendly, relaxed conversation to share what you’ve read and what you can’t wait to read next.”
The Northwich Book Club is set to launch next week
Transition Northwich coordinator Alison Allum explained how the program had been successfully tested over the summer.
She said: âThe library staff do a great job of helping everyone feel welcome and keep the conversation going.
âThe discussions were different each week, depending on who joined and what books we were discussing.
âIt was a real pleasure to hear someone describe a good book and their recommendations have certainly inspired me to try new authors.
“Recommending a book is like giving a gift and it costs nothing.”
The project is supported by the National Lottery Local Connections Fund, which has enabled Transition Northwich to purchase ‘reading tablets’ to lend, through the library service, to people who need a device to participate.
The tablets are simple to use and the library’s eBook and eAudiobook apps are installed, so attendees can easily dive into the books and join the club on Zoom.
Northwich Book Chat will meet for the first time on Friday 8th October at 11am via Zoom.
If you want to participate or know someone who likes to discuss books or be inspired to read, just send an email [email protected] to request the zoom code for ‘Northwich Book Chat’ or navigate to the Northwich Library.
