Rep. Bos offers a free summer reading program for K-5 students

State representative Chris Bos (R-Lake Zurich) offers a program to keep students in shape during the summer holidays. Its summer reading program gives children in kindergarten through 5th grade the opportunity to keep their minds active during the summer holidays while providing them with the opportunity to have fun while participating.

“Studies show that regular reading at a young age helps our children do better in school now and in the future,” Bos said. “To encourage our young readers, students who complete my summer reading program will receive official recognition from the Illinois House of Representatives and an invitation to an ice cream party at the end of the summer. J look forward to a great ice cream party to recognize all of our readers!”

To participate in the summer reading program of Rep. Bos, children must read eight books (books over 150 pages count as two) between the end of school and the August 1 program deadline. Children who achieve this goal will be invited to join their classmates. students and Rep. Bos for an ice cream social at the end of the summer. Participants will also receive an official certificate of recognition recognizing their reading efforts this summer. This program can also be completed in conjunction with any other reading program already offered at a child’s school or through their community’s public library.

Participation brochures are available at the office of Rep. Bos at Lake Zurich or can be downloaded from Completed brochures can be submitted online or returned to the office by August 1.
