The library will be closed Thursday, November 11 in recognition of Veterans Day. We also have some great recommendations for you this week.
On display : In honor of Veterans Day, we are offering two displays of books and DVDs titled âThank you for your serviceâ. Stop by and check out these selections. In addition, we have a book display, “Takeaway Titles with Cream and Sugar”, a fun selection of books at coffee shops, cafes, tea rooms and bakeries. Main office librarian Stephanie says, âOne of my favorites is ‘Love Walked In’, which takes place over a hip cafe in Philadelphia. The manager, Claire, meets and falls in love with a beautiful client. Is there more to him than he seems? What about the little girl who unexpectedly walks into her life? If you’re looking for characters you’d love to hang out with, be sure to try this one out! Pick up some of these excellent books and relax in your comfortable chair with your favorite hot beverage.
Book recommendations: RPL librarian Amy is back this week with another great recommendation: âEvery once in a while it’s nice to grab a cozy book of my favorite genre and dive into it. The Dresden Files series, by Jim Butcher, is just right for me. Harry Dresden is a modern day wizard for hire in Chicago who works with the local police. He fights and sometimes works with vampires, werewolves, and all kinds of fantastic and supernatural creatures. The stories are relatively short and quick to read and you can spend months in between as the author does a good job of recapping. You can even read them out of order if your next book isn’t available. If you’re a fan of Spenser’s novels like me, but you’re open to something a little different, this series might be for you.
Stephanie, the main office librarian, has another recommendation: âIf you haven’t read ‘Mexican Gothic’ by Silvia Moreno-Garcia yet, then I highly recommend it to anyone who likes something very different and with a protagonist. absolutely wonderful, Noemi Taboada. She is a young woman accustomed to a sophisticated lifestyle with many men falling in love with her as she tours parties and dances while studying anthropology in college. She is beautiful and intelligent and when her father charges her with trying to find out what is afflicting her beloved recently married cousin, she sets off on an unforgettable journey! Be prepared for mystery, spooky events, and an unusual love affair. It is a popular book and recently chosen for a Hulu series. While I can’t imagine the TV version will do such a good job of recreating this story as the author did on paper (and your imagination does it while reading!) âAvailable as a book at the library as well as Libby as an eBook or audiobook.
