SDSU, NDSU Extension hosting the Purposeful Retirement online book club; The deadline for registration is August 25

Registration for the Purposeful Retirement online journal club, hosted by SDSU Extension and NDSU Extension, is now open.

Leacey Brown, SDSU Extension Gerontology Field Specialist, and Jane Strommen, NDSU Extension Gerontology Specialist, will host the online journal club. Participants will discuss Sustainable Retirement: How to Bring Happiness and Meaning to Your Retirement by Hyrum W. Smith.

During each session, Brown and Strommen will moderate a panel discussion and ask probing questions to encourage participants to think about retirement in new and exciting ways. The group discussion will encourage participants to explore their personal attitudes and beliefs about retirement, increase their knowledge of how the goal improves health and well-being, identify strategies for integrating the goal into planning retirement, as well as exploring retirement goals and priorities.

“This book club allows participants to reflect on what matters most and how their retirement can reflect their goals and values,” Brown said. “Participants of all ages participated in the club – it’s amazing how we all learn from each other by reading and discussing the book.”

The book club will meet every two weeks for six sessions starting Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at 11 a.m. CST via Zoom. The group will meet on the following dates:

  • Tuesday September 13
  • Tuesday, September 27
  • Tuesday, October 11
  • Tuesday, October 25
  • Tuesday, November 8
  • Tuesday, November 22

Those interested in participating in the journal club can register on the SDSU Extension website. Space is limited and registrations will close on Thursday, August 25. Participation is free and a free copy of the book will be given to each participant upon registration.
