In the clip, Ashley revealed that the shelf was actually empty until recently when she forced her husband to run out and buy 400 books to fill the shelves. She said: “These shelves, I have to be honest, actually didn’t have any books on them a few days ago. I asked my husband to go to the bookstore and I was like, ‘You have to buy 400 books.
“Obviously my husband was like, ‘We should be collecting books over time and putting them on the shelves. “And I was like, ‘No, no, no NOT when AD comes.'”
Someone tweeted about that exact moment in the interview and the internet many of opinion.
Some people were actually furious that Ashley hadn’t built up her book collection over time.

Call me a snob all you want, but I think it’s so weird when people randomly buy books just for decoration. Like, at least get a bunch of books that you’re actually interested in reading? https://t.co/C4mx1mvbck

Isn’t it fun to slowly fill a shelf with books over time? Or be like I have a shelf. I have money. Let’s buy copies of our favorite books to sniff, caress, read and love. We will fill the rest of the shelves with books that we think the other would like to read and talk about.

I’m not sure I trust people who haven’t filled every inch of their bookshelf.

The fuss over the books (!!!) got so bad that Ashley had to step in and provide some context.
She tweeted“Let’s clear that up. There are some of my books over the years in there, but yeah, 36 shelves with 22 books that I didn’t have and any interior designer would have done the same thing. They do it all the time, I was just being honest about it.”
Ashley’s husband, composer Christopher French, also added: “(1) Support local second-hand bookstores when (2) doing photo shoots and (3) don’t worry if people have opinions about it, because some people will always feel the need to have an opinion. on anything, no matter how insignificant. We got most of them from the Iliad Bookstore! The best.”
Ashley then monitoring by: “Sorry I didn’t read everyone’s tweets, I recently had a lot of new books to browse.”
Ashley also shared book club details and current recommendations.
