June 24 – WILLIMANTIC – The Willimantic Public Library kicks off its summer reading program, “Oceans of Possibilities,” with a “splash” at an event on Saturday.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Jillson Square.
During the event, children can discover aquatic creatures in Mystic Aquarium’s traveling touch tank.
As part of the NASA @ MyLibrary program, kids will build and launch rockets, learn about oceans in other worlds, and do ocean awareness crafts.
There will also be lawn games to play.
Those wishing to register for the summer reading can do so at any time at the library. Participants will write down the books they have read on a bingo sheet.
Those who complete five boxes in a row, in a column or diagonally on their bingo card will win a free book and receive a raffle ticket.
The library has also partnered with Casella Waste and Mystic Aquarium to feed the animals in the aquarium.
June, Charlotte and Astro hope customers will “feed” them a pom pom when they visit the library.
Participants will also raise funds to help feed the animals at Mystic Aquarium simply by visiting the library.
Each week the library will have an ocean-related theme with special programs and activities. Upcoming programs include: “Mermaid Storytime: A special storytime for infants up to five years old will take place on Monday, June 27 at 10:30 a.m. It will feature mermaid stories and a craft .
“Not Quite Narwhal Storytime: A special storytime will take place on Tuesday, June 28 at 4 p.m. It will feature stories inspired by “Not Quite Narwhal.”
