JAIPUR: Even though the construction of the digital library building of the University of Rajasthan was completed three years ago, it has yet to be inaugurated.
The interiors are still to be done although the initial contract mentioned that the library was to be completed in nine months. It has been five years since three ministers and rectors of higher education changed, but the new library is not yet fully functional.
Secretary of State Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Hushyaar Meena said: “This library aims to provide books online with the latest technology. There will be a better collection of books and more seating for students. We’ve been waiting a long time, but no one has taken this seriously. The university administration is not willing to complete the job. ”
The new library will be digitized to reduce reliance on labor. There will be a special chip in the books to keep track of. According to information provided by the university administration, students will need to punch their library chip card to get a book. Library cards will also contain information about all books published in the past. At the entrance doors, sensors will be installed which will start beeping if a book is taken out without having been delivered. It will also help prevent book theft.
The professor in charge of the library, SL Sharma, said: “We had put out a tender for the furniture and interior of the library earlier, but due to a technical problem this did not happen. been possible. Now we will again launch a call for tenders. we can complete the process. ”
According to academic sources, the administration wishes to invite Governor and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot for the inauguration of the library.
